The visible blåbär crop begins with flowering, but its size is set by a longer chain: last season’s shoots, an exposed flowering interval, insect visits and fruit development.

Weeks of accumulated moisture decide whether a flush happens at all. Days of warmth and damp decide whether they are up right now. Conflating them is why most forecasts miss.
Aspect changes how much sun reaches the ground, which changes how long the litter stays damp. It is the single biggest reason two hillsides in the same weather fruit a week apart.
